Mapping regional changes in the glycerophosphocholine second messenger lipidome following brain injury using CIRCOS

چکیده
Although it is clear that lipid deregulation is a critical component of many neurodegenerative diseases, including stroke and Alzheimer’s disease, the tools to adequately study such changes are still being developed. While acquisition of lipidomic data has been greatly improved with the development of new technologies, the bottleneck of this type of “omic” research still lies in data analysis and post-processing. Individual lipid species need to be identified, which is being addressed by new tools such as VaLID (Visualization and Phospholipid Identification). However, we still lack the representational capacity to identify important species and critical relationships within large datasets that conventional visualization methods obfuscate. Here we present a Circos-based method to display integrative relationships across multi-modal lipidomic datasets, and develop a method to intuitively explore these data for biologically relevant relationships.

Effect of p-CPA Pretreatment on EEG Power Spectra in Experimental Open Brain Injury in Rats
Continuous four hours EEG (electroencephalogram) recordings and its power spectrum analysis using fast fourier transform (FFT) in urethane anesthetized male Charles Foster rats were performed in two groups: open brain injury and p-CPA (para-Chlorophenylalanine) pretreated before brain injury, respectively, and compared with the EEG power spectrum of control rats. The EEG power spectrum analysis...

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) in all degrees of injury severity mainly induces deviant cognitive, emotional and behavioral alterations that lead to their respective disorders. This brief overview strives to define the variables that determine the risk of occurrence of these disorders and to describe the common patterns of these disorders and their relevant neuropathogenetic mechanism(s). In addi...
متن کاملNeuroprotective effects of crocin on the histopathological alterations following brain ischemia-reperfusion injury in rat
Objective(s): Some histopathological alterations take place in the ischemic regions following brain ischemia. Recent studies have demonstrated some neuroprotective roles of crocin in different models of experimental cerebral ischemia. Here, we investigated the probable neuroprotective effects of crocin on the brain infarction and histopathological changes after transient model of focal cerebral...
متن کاملThe Effect of Diazoxide on Ultrastructural Changes Following Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury of Rat Brain
A B S T R A C T Introduction: Even today there is no effective drug therapy to prevent neuronal loss after brain stroke. In the present study we studied the effect of mitochondrial KATP channel regulators on neuronal ultrastructure after ischemia reperfusion in the rat. Materials & Methods: Rats temporarily subjected to four vessels occlusion for 15 minutes followed by 24 hours reperfusion with...

Background and purpose: Allicin has a wide range of pharmacological functions, all of which can be demonstrated in anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antifungal and anti-tumor activities. In this research, we investigated the neuroprotective role of allicin in the process of diffuse traumatic brain injury and its effect on interleukin levels and histological changes in rats. Materials and method...
